So Just What is a Mini-Moot?
Well
to answer that question, one needs to know what a "Moot"
is first.
Most
who are familiar with Rovering traditions are aware that "Moots"
are analagous to jamborees, where Rovers from all around the world
meet up. The term originates from Anglo-Saxon for "assembly".
In modern days, Moots still happen around the world, but as some
would explain it, you only need two Rovers to make a Moot. In
a crew like ours, we have to get creative about getting everyone
with such busy lives into the same space and time together. As
we've grown closer over the last year, we've added each other
into our own social circles. Periodically we actually get to see
each other outside our Crew events - these impromptu meet-ups
get affectionately dubbed "unnofficial mini-moots".
We figure, that's where the real fun is happening!
So
yes, here you can see what we look like here in street clothes
sans neckerchiefs. This snapshot was taken at Jay's birthday party
at Jay & TIna's house in September 2006. We've had several
other such unofficial meet-ups throughout 2006, though there were
several more that went uncounted. Of these, the most memorable
ones were a near total crew meet-up at Dave & Matt's bonfire
party in January and Jeff's "Game Day" in November.
We're
lucky enough to be experiencing the birth of Independent Scouting
from the inside... we look forward to the day we can have real
Moots with other crews from around the area. Picture it: the first
